Use the search bar above to find your city, then click 'Book via IDP' or 'Book via BC' to go directly to the official booking page for that provider in your country. Both IDP and British Council publish live available dates on their booking portals — dates change frequently so always check the official site for current availability.
IDP and British Council are the two official IELTS test administrators, but the exam itself is identical — both use the same question papers, marking criteria, and band scale. Your IELTS certificate is accepted equally whether issued by IDP or British Council. The main differences are test centre locations, available dates, and booking fees which can vary by country. Choose whichever has a more convenient date or location for you.
In major Indian cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Chennai, IELTS exams are typically held weekly by both IDP and British Council. In mid-size cities like Pune, Ahmedabad, and Chandigarh, tests are usually available fortnightly. Smaller cities typically have monthly test dates. All tests can be booked through the central IDP India or British Council India portals.
Yes. IELTS Online (also called IELTS on Computer — Online) is available in many countries and lets you take Listening, Reading, and Writing from home using a secure browser. Speaking is conducted via video call with a certified examiner. Not all visa and immigration authorities accept IELTS Online, so check with your target institution before booking. The paper-based and test centre computer tests are more universally accepted.
Book at least 4–6 weeks in advance, especially in high-demand cities like Delhi, Mumbai, or Dubai. Popular test dates in January, June, and September fill up quickly. If you have a visa deadline, work backwards and book as early as possible. Results are typically released 3–5 days after a computer-delivered test and 13 days after a paper-based test.
